Grand Entrancement



The entrances and exits
are religious rites. Once
the kitten was invited in,
found food. Now, refused more food,
she begs to go out so that,
a moment later, by entering,
she can make food be there,

and if the magic fails her
once,  twice, ten times,
such is her faith, she tries again,
and at last
there is food.

It isn’t the need to go out
or to come in. One must go out
in order to come in, a magic act
that makes food appear.
